Wunderman - Chicago

Ian Sohn

Chief Executive Officer

As the Chief Executive Officer of Wunderman Thompson Central, Ian is responsible for overseeing all agency operations in the Central Region, with a special emphasis on growing new and existing business and expanding the agency’s social and digital capabilities. The Central Region encompasses nearly 300 people across four offices, which include: Chicago, Minneapolis, Austin and Memphis.

For more than 20 years, Ian has used his breadth of experience spanning sales, marketing, business development and public relations to generate innovative solutions for client businesses. Ian’s passion for selling strong ideas and solutions has led him to implement noteworthy strategies across a world-class portfolio of brands such as Huggies, SC Johnson, J.M. Smucker, GOJO (makers of PURELL), CDW, Ford and Marriott.

Prior to joining Wunderman Thompson, Ian was the Managing Director of SapientRazorfish in Chicago. While at SapientRazorfish, he looked after the business, human and cultural health of the office. He also served as the architect and business lead for brands in categories including CPG, insurance, retail, fashion, pharma and healthcare. Before that, he was the Executive Vice President of Digital and Social at Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide, Inc. in Chicago, where he built and led a team of award-winning digital strategists and founded the agency’s award-winning social media practice in 2008. Prior to Ogilvy, he was the global partnership lead for a division of Nokia.

Ian is particularly proud of his passion for selling innovative ideas and solutions; the trust his clients put in him; and the joy he takes in finding and developing talent. He is also energized by the challenge of further shaping the future of Wunderman Thompson. As a strong advocate for equal work life balance and employee satisfaction, earlier this year, Ian’s LinkedIn essay imploring his employees to stop apologizing for “having lives” became a viral sensation.

When he’s not working, Ian can likely be found chasing his two little boys and puppy, yelling at athletes on TV who can’t hear him, watching Keith Moon clips on YouTube, devouring something with ketchup, reading anything he can find on Muhammad Ali, chasing fresh powder on a mountain out west, or running a few miles on the Chicago lakefront. He lives in Chicago with his two sons.
